BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Samford softball team earned the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week award for the third consecutive week, as the conference office selected Samford freshman Reese Hickey. Hickey won the award for the second time this season for the Bulldogs.

The Georgia native went 2-0 on the week, earning a win in relief at West Georgia and a win at ETSU. Hickey pitched 4.2 innings out of the bullpen on Tuesday in Samford's 14-6 win at West Georgia. She scattered five hits and allowed one run while striking out seven batters. She started game two of the Dogs series at ETSU, going in the distance in a complete game shutout. She allowed just two hits in her seven innings of work, moving her overall season record to 5-1 and lowering her ERA to 3.10.

In SoCon play, the Bulldogs have the second-best staff ERA and the most strikeouts. They sit in second place in the conference, two games behind UNCG. The Bulldogs host the Spartans for a three-game set this weekend, beginning on Saturday with two games followed by senior day on Sunday. If the Dogs can complete the sweep, they will claim the SoCon regular season championship.
