PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Samford junior
Grace Engel earned individual medalist honors, tying for first place, while the Bulldogs finished third as a team at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge, held Monday through Wednesday at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club (Par 71, 6,082 yards).
Engel shot a three-under-par 68 in Wednesday's final round to finish with a three-round score of five-under-par 208 (68-72-68). She tied with Charleston Southern's Katie Stephens for first place in the 100-player field.
As a team, Samford finished with a three-day total of 29-over-par 881 (295-292-294) to place third in the 19-team field. Middle Tennessee won the tournament with a score of 876 (289-290-297).
Following Engel for Samford,
Gabi Nicastro tied for 13
th with a score of 221 (74-73-74).
Anika Richards tied for 33
rd at 227 (76-74-77), while
Kate Joyner tied for 38
th with a score of 228 (77-73-78).
Morgan Franklin placed 94
th with a three-round score of 249 (85-89-75).
Samford will next compete in the Southern Conference Championship, April 20-22, in Blythewood, S.C.
