AUBURN, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team opened the Alabama Showdown falling to South Alabama 3-0 (31-29, 25-22, 25-19) inside of Neville Arena on Thursday.

Samford falls to 2-6 on the season, while South Alabama improves to 4-6.

The match opened with an extended first set that the Jaguars ultimately won 31-29. South Alabama took sets two and three, 25-22 and 25-19, to seal the 3-0 victory.

Freshman middle blocker Hazel Slusher led the way for the Bulldogs with 14 kills on a .312 hitting percentage, followed by freshman outside hitter Maggie Kalisz with 12 kills on a .355 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Ally Cordes had a team leading-18 digs, while redshirt freshman setter Alison Ohlinger recorded 39 assists. Samford finished the match with a .140 hitting percentage on 143 total attempts.

Cambria Gaier led the way for South Alabama with 11 kills and 16 digs. Dalayla Blackwell recorded eight total blocks. The Jaguars finished with a .207 hitting percentage on 140 total attempts.

The Bulldogs close the Alabama Showdown against host-Auburn on Friday. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. in Neville Arena.
