GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT ALABAMA (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford soccer team will play at the sixth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide Thursday at 7 p.m. The game can be seen live online on SECN+.
Samford and Alabama have met 10 previous times, with Alabama holding a 6-3-1 series lead. The teams met last season in Birmingham, with Alabama winning, 3-1. Samford's last win in the series came in 2021 in a 1-0 win in Tuscaloosa.
Samford enters Thursday evening's contest with a record of 3-0-2. The Bulldogs are coming off a 4-1 win over in-state rival Jacksonville State last Thursday night. Samford was ranked seventh in this week's United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region rankings, making Samford the only non-SEC team in the top 10. Alabama was ranked second in the regional rankings and sixth nationally.
So far this season, Martha Bishop leads the Samford team in goals with two. Brinley Murphy, Mary-Ainsley Alack, Sam De Luca, Hayven Laurendine, Alex Parr and Alyssa Tutas have one goal each. Murphy also has two assists to go along with her goal. Caroline Smith has two assists, while Langston Lilly, Annie McBride and Addison Smith have one assist each.
Samford goalkeeper Peyton Hull has a 0.21 goals against average, starting all five games and playing 432:10. She has posted three shutouts so far this season.
Samford head coach Todd Yelton is in his 25th season in charge of the program. He has a career record of 344-154-75, and he is Samford's all-time winningest coach with a mark of 304-122-71 in his time with the Bulldogs.
Alabama carries a mark of 6-0 into Thursday night's contest. The Crimson Tide earned a 3-0 win over South Alabama Sunday afternoon.
Alabama has been led so far this season by Larkin Thomason with six goals and one assist for a total of 13 points. Ashley Roni has four goals and one assist for nine total points. Alabama goalkeeper Madi Munguia has started all six games in goal and has a 0.67 goals against average.
