TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Samford soccer team battled sixth-ranked Alabama before falling, 1-0, to the Crimson Tide Thursday evening.

With the loss, Samford fell to 3-1-2 on the season. Alabama improved to 7-0 with the win.

The teams played through the first 79 minutes in a scoreless battle. The Crimson Tide broke the tie with Ashley Roni's goal off assists from Larkin Thomason and Kiley Kukan in the 80^th minute.

For Samford in the loss, Caroline Smith led the team with four shots. Goalkeeper Peyton Hull saved four shots and allowed just the one goal.

For Alabama, Roni, Thomason and Kennedy Garcia had two shots each. Goalkeeper Madi Manguia saved three shots in earning the shutout.

Samford will return home to play host to Auburn on Sunday, Sept. 6. The game is set for a 5 p.m. start from Shauna Yelton Field.
