Erin Heffner begins her second season as a member of the Samford volleyball coaching staff. She assists with recruiting and helps with the annual Samford volleyball camps. She also manages the team's public relations and aid in the team's strength and conditioning workouts. Heffner started at the University of Alabama under former Alabama assistant and current Samford Head Coach Michelle Durban. Heffner holds Alabama's record in kills (2,090) and attempts (4,785). She became the first Tide player with more than 2,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs (1,180, fourth in school history). She is ranked in the school's career top 10 in attack percentage (.255, eighth), aces (166, tied for fourth), solo blocks (42, tied for eighth) and block assists (187, 10th). Heffner's kills and attempts totals were both good enough for the third-highest all-time total in the Southeastern Conference. Heffner was a second-team All-SEC pick her first two seasons and a first-team pick her last two years, becoming the first Alabama player to be named All-Conference four times. She was named the AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year in 2001 and was a first-team All-Region pick in 2003 and 2004. She was also an Honorable Mention All-American her junior and senior seasons, and was team cocaptain those years as well. Heffner started all 126 matches in her career and tallied 53 double-doubles. She was an excellent performer in the classroom as well. Heffner was a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership society. She was an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District second-team member in 2004. She was named to the Academic All-SEC team all four years and was on the University of Alabama Dean's List six of eight semesters. A native of Fort Wayne, Ind., Heffner now resides in Birmingham.
