Lynze Lysen Roos begins her first year as an assistant with the Samford volleyball team. She will assist with all aspects of on-court coaching, especially with outside hitters and liberos. She will also provide assistance in day-to-day operations, including recruiting and travel plans. Roos will oversee alumni relations for the Samford volleyball program.
Roos comes to Samford after a three-year tenure with Pike High School in Indianapolis, Ind. At Pike, Roos was the head volleyball coach and led her team to three top four finishes in the conference, as well as a sectional final. She also worked with the Pike Youth League and the Pike Fire Volleyball Club from 2001-04.
As a collegian, Roos was the exemplary student-athlete. While an undergraduate student at Butler University, she compiled a 3.5 grade point average on her way to a double-major in both English and Education. She was named to the dean's list for an impressive eight consecutive semesters and was an NCAA District 12 All-Academic Team member each of her semesters in college.
On the court, Roos was just as impressive. As a freshman in 1997, while playing for current Samford head coach Michelle Durban, Roos was named to the Midwestern Collegiate Conference All-Newcomer Team and helped lead her squad to regular- and post-season conference titles and the program's first NCAA Tournament bid. She was named a Second Team All-Conference performer in 1998 and 2000, and ended her playing career in Butler's top 10 in five different categories.
Originally from Frankfort, Ill., Roos just recently married Matt Roos on December 18, 2004 and they currently reside in Homewood, Ala.
