Lynze Roos begins her second year as an assistant with the Samford volleyball team. She assists with all aspects of on-court coaching, especially with outside hitters and liberos. Roos also provides assistance in day-to-day operations, including recruiting and travel plans. Additionally, she oversees alumni relations for the Samford volleyball program and manages the annual Samford volleyball camps. Originally from Frankfort, Ill., Roos comes to Samford after a three-year tenure with Pike High School in Indianapolis, Ind. At Pike, she was the head volleyball coach and led her team to three top-four finishes in the conference, as well as a sectional final. She also worked with the Pike Youth League and the Pike Fire Volleyball Club during 2001-04. As a collegian, Roos was the exemplary student-athlete. While an undergraduate student at Butler University, she compiled a 3.5 grade point average on her way to a double-major in English and education. She was named to the dean's list for eight consecutive semesters and was an NCAA District 12 All-Academic team member each semester. Roos was named 2001 Future Educator of the Year by the Butler Secondary Education Department. On the court, Roos was equally impressive. As a freshman in 1997, while playing for current Samford Head Coach Michelle Durban, Roos was named to the Midwestern Collegiate Conference All-Newcomer team. She helped lead her squad to regular- and postseason conference titles and the program's first NCAA Tournament bid. Roos was named a second-team All-Conference performer in 1998 and 2000. She ended her playing career in Butler's top 10 in five categories and was named to Butler's Top 25 players in the first 25 years of the program. In addition to her coaching duties, Roos is currently working on the completion of a Master's of Education from Samford. The former Lynze Lysen, she and her husband Matt married in 2004. They reside in Homewood.
