BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—With its 4-1 start to the season, the Samford football team has moved into the national polls, ranking 24
th in both the STATS FCS poll and the FCS Coaches poll, both released Monday.
Samford enters this week ranked fourth in the nation among FCS teams in passing offense, averaging 340.6 passing yards per game. The Bulldogs also rank seventh nationally in net punting (40.13 net avg.) and eighth in team passing efficiency (166.41).
Samford's 4-1 start includes Southern Conference wins over Wofford and Furman, as well as a non-conference road win over Central Arkansas (ranked 23
rd in the STATS poll and 22
nd in the Coaches Poll).
This is the first time Samford has entered the official national polls since the final poll of the 2013 season. Samford is one of three Southern Conference schools to appear in this week's polls. Chattanooga is ranked fifth in the STATS poll and third in the Coaches Poll, while The Citadel comes in at eighth in the STATS poll and ninth in the Coaches poll.
The Bulldogs will return home this week when they host VMI Saturday at 2 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. The game is Military Appreciation Day. All military and first responders should bring their military/first responder ID to Gate B to receive two free tickets to the game.
