BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Former Samford defensive lineman
Jeremy Towns has signed as a free agent with the Washington Redskins, the club announced Monday afternoon.
Towns is in Washington now to begin workouts this week.
At Samford, Towns had his best season as a senior. He started all 13 games, finishing with 54 tackles, including 36 solo stops. Towns had 6.0 tackles for a loss, including 2.5 sacks. He also had one forced fumble and one quarterback hurry in 2013.
Despite battling injuries throughout his career, Towns finished with 105 tackles, 62 solo. He also had 6.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss in his Samford career.
Towns is the second member of the 2013 Samford football team to earn a free-agent deal, as wide receiver
Kelsey Pope signed with the Arizona Cardinals in May.
