CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Samford junior Kelsey Pope was named to the College Football Performance Awards' preseason watch list for wide receivers, when the list was released by the CFPA on Monday.
As a sophomore in 2011, Pope ranked second in the Southern Conference and sixth in the nation in receptions per game (7.82). He also ranked third in the league in receiving yards per game (73.6). He led Samford with 86 catches for 810 yards and six touchdowns during the 2011 season.
Pope also rushed 33 times for 175 yards and three touchdowns last season. In addition to his rushing and receiving numbers, Pope returned six kickoffs for an average of 15.7 yards per return, and he completed 4-of-6 passes for 66 yards and one touchdown.
Pope is the second Samford player to be named to a CFPA Watch List this preseason. Fellow junior Fabian Truss was named to the watch list for running backs last week.
The CFPA is releasing its watch lists for each position, with a different position being released each week.
