Bulldogs' Road Streak Comes To An End At UNCG

Samford will continue its SoCon road trip Sunday at Elon (1 p.m.)

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Samford University soccer team's two-match road winning streak came to an end Friday as the Bulldogs suffered a 3-0 loss to the UNCG Spartans in a Southern Conference contest held in front of 357 fans at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
 
With the loss, Samford (11-5-1, 4-3-1 SoCon) dropped to 4-4 on the road this season and suffered its first defeat away from home since Oct. 6. Two weeks ago, the Bulldogs swept their weekend road trip against conference foes Western Carolina and Appalachian State.
 
UNCG (9-6-2, 4-2-2 SoCon) received a pair of goals from Katie Durst, and another from Ashley Stokes in its 3-0 victory Friday. With their win, the Spartans improved to 4-2-1 all-time against Samford.
 
The Bulldogs outshot UNCG, 14-9, on Friday, but the Spartans outnumbered Samford in corner kick opportunities, 7-0.
 
UNCG goalkeeper Jamie Simmons registered six saves on 14 shots faced. The Bulldogs' Dale Steinagle concluded the match with one stop.
 
Samford's Michelle Moll finished Friday's contest with a game-high five shot attempts, while senior Trine Taule added three.
 
The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Sunday at 1 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs continue their arduous SoCon road trip against the Elon Phoenix in a momentous match to be held at Rudd Field (750).
