BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University women's tennis team was defeated in Southern Conference play Saturday as the Bulldogs dropped a 6-1 home decision against the Furman Lady Paladins in a midseason conference contest held at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, Samford (6-10, 1-4 SoCon) moved to 6-3 at home this season. The Bulldogs also suffered their sixth straight defeat, dating back to March 3.
 
Furman (7-6, 3-0 SoCon) extended its winning streak to three-consecutive matches this season and remained undefeated in league play this year. Last week, the Lady Paladins tallied consecutive victories against East Carolina and Wofford.
 
Furman earned wins on courts No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point Saturday. The Lady Paladins then tallied singles victories from Lauren Kline (No. 1), Alex Moreno-Kaste (No. 2), Katherine Oudin (No. 3), Michelle Stanford (No. 4) and Margaret Boyette (No. 6) to earn the 6-1 team win.
 
Samford's lone singles win occurred on court No. 5 as the Bulldogs' Emily Mallory battled to a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (8) triumph over Furman's Amanda Murray. With her victory, Mallory improved her team-best singles record to 9-5 this season.
 
The Samford University women's tennis team will next be in action Sunday at noon as the Bulldogs play host to the Wofford Terriers in another critical league contest to be held at the Samford Tennis Center.
