KASEY MORRISON INTERVIEW
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Samford football team practiced for about two hours in full pads Thursday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.
The practice was the 15th workout of fall camp for the Bulldogs. Senior offensive lineman Kasey Morrison says camp is going well for his group so far.
"We're all good, we're just trying to pick up a few blitzes," Morrison said. "The defense is putting in some new stuff, so we're just trying to figure out all of that stuff right now. We're working on our technique right now, just trying to get all of the fundamentals down."
Morrison was one of the leaders of the offensive line last season and returns as a senior in 2013. The unit helped pave the way for running back Fabian Truss rushing for 1,063 yards, marking the fifth time in the last six seasons Samford has produced a 1,000-yard rusher. Morrison says having a 1,000-yard rusher is a goal that is important to the offensive line to accomplish each season.
"It's very important," Morrison said. "Fabo (Fabian Truss) is one of the best backs in the nation, and we just try to help him get those yards every game."
Morrison said there is still plenty of work for him and his fellow offensive linemen to do before starting the season in just over two weeks.
"Just technique, that's what we are working on right now," Morrison said. "The offensive line has the mindset down, but we just have to work on our technique, that's the biggest thing."
Samford will practice twice again on Friday. The team will practice in the morning at 7 a.m. in full pads and in the afternoon at 3:15 p.m. in shells.
Samford opens the 2013 season on Friday, Aug. 30, when the Bulldogs travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State in the Georgia Dome. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (CT) start.
