Greg Peranich have earned a few national awards following their performances in the Bulldogs' 27-20 win at Florida A&M on Saturday.
Kimberlin has been named National Defensive Back of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA), and he was named one of the Defensive Players of the Week by the Beyond Sports Network. Peranich was named one of the Special Teams Players of the Week by the Beyond Sports Network.
Kimberlin tied a school record with three interceptions in Saturday's victory. He returned the three interceptions for a total of 67 yards. Kimberlin's first pick came late in the third quarter with the Bulldogs holding a 24-20 lead. In the fourth quarter with Samford leading, 27-20, Kimberlin intercepted FAMU's Damien Flemming on back-to-back possessions in Samford territory to seal the victory. The Olive Branch, Miss., native added three tackles in the win.
Peranich punted three times for an average of 48.7 yards per punt during the win at Florida A&M. He had a long kick of 50 yards, and he placed two of his punts inside the 20-yard line.
The Bulldogs will play their first home game of the 2013 season this Saturday, Sept. 21, against Southeastern Louisiana. Kickoff for the game is set for 2 p.m. from Seibert Stadium.
