KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Samford University soccer team extended its winning streak to three-consecutive matches Tuesday as the Bulldogs earned a momentous 3-0 road victory against the Kennesaw State Owls in a key non-conference matchup held at Fifth-Third Bank Stadium.

In its dominant midweek win, Samford (5-2) used a pair of goals from junior forward Amanda Abbott and a second-half score from senior midfielder Trine Taule to register the 3-0 triumph. Abbott's goals were tallied in the 41st and 52nd minutes, while Taule's strike was added in the 73rd.

Abbott, the Bulldogs' speedy native of nearby Marietta, notched her second and third goals of the season Tuesday. She also recorded her second game-winning goal of the young 2013 campaign.

Taule, who was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week earlier on Tuesday, also improved her goals-scored total to three this season. Samford's highly-competitive native of Frekhaug, Norway, increased her career goals total to 19 and moved into a tie for sixth place on the school's all-time list.

The Bulldogs' true freshman goalkeeper Katie Peters earned her fourth shutout of the 2013 season and dropped her stellar goals-against average to 0.83. As one of the nation's top incoming recruits of this year's class, Peters faced seven shots Tuesday and registered three critical saves. Samford's native of Greenfield, Ind., has already made 30 saves this season.

With Tuesday's loss, Kennesaw State (2-5) suffered its second straight defeat. On Friday, the Owls squared off against Ole Miss and fell short in a 2-1 home setback. Kennesaw State also dropped to 1-4 in its all-time series with Samford.

The Bulldogs outshot the Owls, 12-7, and won the corner kick battle, 5-3. Additionally, nine of Samford's 12 shot attempts were on goal for a sizzling .750 shots-on-goal percentage.

The teams played a hotly-contested match until the 41st minute of play Tuesday when Abbott gathered a neat pass from true freshman Sara Smeltzer and scored from 11 yards out into the bottom left corner of the net. The goal was Abbott's first of the evening and proved to be the first assist of Smeltzer's budding career.

Six minutes into the second half, Samford extended its lead to 2-0 as Abbott struck for her second score of the contest.

On her third goal of the year, Abbott collected a perfect pass from true freshman Anna Allen that was sent ahead over the Kennesaw State defenders. Abbott then ran under the brilliant pass and rifled a shot into the back of the net at exactly 6:01 into the final stanza.

Taule's goal gave Samford its ultimate 3-0 lead of the match and came off a crossing pass from fellow senior Jordan Johnson. Johnson placed the ball perfectly for Taule, who then headed the ball past Olivia Sturdivant from five yards out. The assist was Johnson's second of the season.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 7 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs begin a critical four-match homestand against the Georgia State Panthers to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Admission is FREE to Friday's match and football tickets for Saturday's home-opener against Southeastern Louisiana will be sold for $5.
