BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University soccer team will compete in its third-consecutive home match Sunday at 2 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs square off against the Davidson Wildcats in a critical early-season Southern Conference contest to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Samford (6-2-1, 0-0-1 SoCon) enters the contest boasting a five-match undefeated streak. Since dropping a hard-fought 2-0 decision at Texas on Sept. 6, the Bulldogs have rattled off consecutive victories against UTSA, 2-0, Vanderbilt, 3-2, Kennesaw State, 3-0, and Georgia State, 4-2, before playing to a 0-0 draw with Georgia Southern on Friday.

Against Georgia Southern in its SoCon opener, Samford outshot the Eagles, 33-6, but couldn't find the back of the net as the Bulldogs posted their first draw of the 2013 campaign. Samford owns a 4-0-1 record when playing at home this season.

Davidson (2-5-3, 1-0 SoCon) heads into Sunday's SoCon showdown riding the positive momentum of a two-match winning streak. In their last two outings, the Wildcats have defeated Charlotte, 1-0, in double overtime and then outscored Chattanooga, 3-2, Friday.             Davidson has only played four road matches this season and has posted a 1-2-1 mark.

Sunday's match will be just the seventh all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and Wildcats.

Samford currently holds a 2-1-3 advantage in the series and has won two straight against Davidson. In each of the last two seasons, the Bulldogs have registered identical 2-0 victories over the Wildcats. Samford owns a 1-0-2 home record in the series.

In last year's annual matchup, Samford used goals from Lindsey Hansen and senior Adrianne Mancino to defeat the Wildcats, 2-0, at Alumni Field in Davidson, N.C. Melissa Montgomery turned in a stellar performance in goal last season and registered the first shutout of her young collegiate career. The Bulldogs' native of Georgetown, Texas, registered five key saves in the shutout victory.

Following Sunday's match against Davidson, the Samford University soccer team will next be in action Thursday at 7 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs welcome the Wofford Terriers to the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium for another key SoCon matchup.
