BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford football team continued working for this weekend's game at Furman with a two-hour practice in shells Wednesday afternoon at Seibert Stadium.
Samford continued working on its game plan for Saturday's game, which will be broadcast live on ESPN3. Samford comes into the game with a record of 3-3 overall and 2-2 in Southern Conference games. The Bulldogs are coming off a 24-20 loss to Wofford last weekend.
Samford assistant head coach and defensive coordinator
Bill D'Ottavio talked about some of the things the team is working to improve on as the season progresses.
"We just have to continue to improve," D'Ottavio said. "First off, you always have to improve fundamentally. We have to eliminate some of the mistakes we're making on both sides of the ball. We have to create some turnovers and work on ball security. But at the end of the day, it's overall execution. We have to play a lot sharper and we have to continue to get better. We're doing a lot of good things on both sides of the ball and right now our focus is to continue to get better."
Furman is currently 2-5 overall and 1-1 in SoCon games. The Paladins played at South Carolina last weekend, falling to the Gamecocks by a score of 41-10. D'Ottavio talked about what he has seen from the Paladins.
"Furman has a good football team," D'Ottavio said. "Every team in this league is a good football team. Every week you have to come to play in this league. They're a team that has gotten progressively better as the season as gone on. They've changed quarterbacks and the last couple of weeks they've really been playing good football."
Saturday's game will mark just the third road game of the season for Samford. It will be the Bulldogs' first road game since Sept. 27, when Samford played at Chattanooga.
"We've been home for a few weeks and it's been nice, but now we have to go on the road and play a tough opponent in Furman," D'Ottavio said. "We're going to get a chance to get on the road and focus and concentrate and get ready to play a good football game."
Samford's game at Furman on Saturday is set for a 12:30 p.m. (CT) start from Paladin Stadium in Greenville, S.C. In addition to the ESPN3 broadcast, the game can be heard locally on FM 99.5 Nash Icon, or worldwide on the internet at
