BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Samford University volleyball team will take its six-match win streak on the road this weekend with contests against UNCG on Friday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. and against Wofford College on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. The live video stream of both matches can be found via the SoCon Digital Network.
The Bulldogs (10-7, 4-0 SoCon) enter the contest with the Spartans (10-7, 2-2 SoCon) with a 9-2 all-time record over UNCG. SU has won six-straight over the Spartans with their last loss coming back on Sept. 24, 2010 when UNCG defeated Samford 3-0 on the road in Greensboro, N.C.
Samford will wrap up the weekend with a match against the Terriers (9-10, 2-1 SoCon). The Bulldogs hope to retain an unblemished 7-0 record against WC. Last season SU edged Wofford 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 25-20 and 15-13) at home in its regular season finale.
Junior
Emily Meitz continues to be a force at the net during the Bulldogs, especially over the past six matches. The St. Louis, Missouri native has tallied 38 total blocks on the season but 25 have come over that six match span. Meitz also ranks fifth on the team in kills with 90 (2.00 k/s).
SU has used the serve as a weapon this season and it has shown as the team ranks ninth nationally in aces per set (1.17) and second in the SoCon behind Wofford (1.81). Senior
Chelsi Carter has spearheaded the output for Samford as she alone ranks 10
th nationally in aces per set (0.54) and 9
th nationally in total aces (32); both of which also lead the conference.
Samford's next set of matches will keep the team on the road as they travel to face The Citadel on Oct. 17, and then travel to Furman University on Oct. 18. Both matches will be broadcast via live stream on the SoCon Digital Network.
