Samford StatsBIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University women's tennis team tallied its sixth shutout victory of the 2014 dual-match campaign Sunday, including their third in four outings, as the Bulldogs blanked the UNCG Spartans, 7-0, in a late-season Southern Conference contest held indoors at the Samford Tennis Center.
With its lopsided victory,
Samford (16-2, 7-1 SoCon) remained undefeated at home this season and extended its winning streak at the Samford Tennis Center to 13-consecutive matches. In 2014, the Bulldogs boast a brilliant 11-0 record at home.
UNCG (7-11, 4-3 SoCon) dropped its second SoCon match in consecutive days Sunday and finished its weekend road swing with an 0-2 record. On Saturday, the Spartans lost at Chattanooga, 5-2.
Samford proved to be triumphant in all nine of its contests against UNCG.
The Bulldogs swept the three doubles matches Sunday and then breezed to six straight-set victories in the singles competition.
Comprehensively this season, Samford owns a sterling 41-11 record in doubles play, including an impressive 20-4 mark against SoCon opponents. The Bulldogs also hold a remarkable 85-20 record in singles play.
Samford's doubles combinations of
Kristin Lewis and
Stephanie N'tcha, as well as
Yasmeen Ebada and
Carita Moolman are both undefeated this season. Lewis and N'tcha, the Bulldogs' No. 1 doubles tandem, boasts an unblemished 6-0 record in dual-match play, while Ebada and Moolman are also perfect at 5-0.
In singles play Sunday, Samford's N'tcha, Lewis and Ebada were all victorious to improve their singles records on the year to 14-3, 11-7 and 16-1, respectively. Mallory, the Bulldogs' talented senior of Louisville, Ky., was also triumphant in singles play and holds the team's longest winning streak at seven-consecutive matches.
Samford dominated the bottom half of the singles competition versus UNCG.
Mallory cruised to a victory on court No. 5, while Northcutt notched a win on court No. 4 and Lauren Cabellero defeated the Spartans' Devon Sutherland in the No. 6 singles contest. With their triumphs, Northcutt moved to 14-4 this season and Caballero improved to 11-3.
The Samford University women's tennis team will next be in action Wednesday at 2 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs play host to the Troy Trojans in their final nonconference contest of the regular season to be held at the Samford Tennis Center.
