BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – It's been 256 days since the Samford Volleyball team saw its last official action on the court. The Bulldogs still however have to wait another 23 days before it officially begins its 2014 campaign with its first match of the season set for Friday, August 29, against Georgia State University.
"It's been a great off season." Head Coach
Derek Schroeder said. "We have rested, bonded and challenged ourselves in off season workouts."
Until then, the team will first report back for fall camp on Friday, August 8, to begin to lay down the groundwork for the product it will showcase on the court against GSU in the Samford/UAB Invitational.
Even though it's been several months since the team last saw action most have been busy in the offseason improving on their craft in various ways. Two of the team's leaders even made trips to try out and play for their respected national teams.
"Every spring event we played in we challenged ourselves against some big conference opponents which hopefully accelerated our learning curve and tested us physically."
Senior
Michaela Reesor, 2013 SoCon Player of the Year, spent one month training and playing with Team Canada while fellow senior
Chelsi Carter, 2013 SoCon Libero of the Year, attended the Team USA Volleyball open tryouts in late February.
"Chelsi & Mik are ready to go physically and mentally." Schroeder explained. "I'm excited to see their leadership and what heights the two of them, our staff and myself can take the rest of this young team to."
