BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Samford's home soccer match Friday against the VMI Keydets has been moved up to 6 p.m. (CDT), it has officially been announced by the Samford Athletic Department. The teams will square off in a Southern Conference contest to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. The match was originally slated to begin at 7 p.m., but both coaching staffs agreed to move up the start time with rainy weather predicted in the area later tonight.
Samford (9-4, 4-0 SoCon) heads into the matchup boasting a seven-game SoCon regular-season winning streak, as well as a current five-match winning streak. Since dropping a hard-fought 1-0 home contest to Georgia on Sept. 13, the Bulldogs have tallied consecutive triumphs against Kennesaw State, 5-2, Furman, 2-0, Wofford, 1-0, The Citadel, 5-0, and Mercer, 1-0.
VMI (4-8, 0-3 SoCon) enters Friday's contest with aspirations of winning its first road match of the season. The Keydets are 0-4 in away games this year and are in the midst of a three-match losing streak.
Since earning back-to-back victories against Presbyterian, 1-0, and Francis Marion, 3-0, on Sept. 18 and 20, respectively, VMI has suffered consecutive SoCon defeats versus ETSU, 2-0, Western Carolina, 5-0, and Wofford, 1-0.
