Bulldogs' N'tcha Named SoCon Player Of The Week

Samford’s senior tallied an unblemished 4-0 record in matches against Furman and Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Samford's Stephanie N'tcha was named the Southern Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week Tuesday after the Bulldogs' senior netter registered a perfect 4-0 record in dual-match play last week. The honor was awarded by the SoCon league office for all matches played March 23-29.
 
Samford will next be in action Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs continue play in their 2015 SoCon schedule on the road against the Mercer Bears to be held at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon, Georgia.
 
N'tcha helped lead her squad to a 2-0 record in Southern Conference action last week with wins against Furman and Wofford.
 
While competing at the top position in both singles and doubles play, N'tcha notched an unblemished 4-0 record by going 2-0 in each discipline. Both of her singles victories occurred in straight sets with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Furman's Ansley Speaks followed by a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Wofford's Catherine Martin.
 
In doubles, Samford's N'tcha and teammate Carita Moolman comprise the nation's No. 65-ranked squad and compiled a pair of victories last week on court No. 1. Their biggest win of the young SoCon season came against Furman as the combination secured Samford's doubles point Saturday with a thrilling 8-7 victory.
 
Overall, the Bulldogs' N'tcha boasts a 9-5 record in singles play this season, as well as a 10-3 mark in doubles. Last week, she extended her winning streaks to three-consecutive matches in both regards.
 
N'tcha's SoCon Player of the Week Award proved to be her second of the 2015 season, as well as Samford's third of the spring. She also garnered the honor on Feb. 17, while Moolman received the accolade on Feb. 27.
 
Other top performers in the SoCon last week included ETSU's Ioanna Markesini, Furman's Alex Moreno-Kaste and Chattanooga's Alison Storie.
 
The Samford University women's tennis team will next be in action Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs continue play in their 2015 SoCon schedule on the road against the Mercer Bears to be held at the Leroy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon, Georgia.
