GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Samford University women's tennis team extended its Southern Conference winning streak to five-consecutive matches Saturday as the Bulldogs registered a brilliant 7-0 road victory against the UNCG Spartans in a key league contest held at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

Samford (11-8, 5-0 SoCon), which is currently the first-place team in the conference standings, remained undefeated against SoCon opponents in 2015 and improved to 3-5 in road matches this year.

Already this season, the Bulldogs have topped Furman, Wofford, Mercer, ETSU and UNCG (8-9, 2-2 SoCon) in SoCon play. Samford is currently in the driver's seat for the regular-season league title, but still has to square off against Western Carolina and Chattanooga on the road.

On Saturday, Samford swept the doubles competition and rolled to straight-set victories on all six singles courts. The Bulldogs' 7-0 sweep proved to be their fifth of the 2015 campaign.

Samford's No. 2 doubles combination of Yasmeen Ebada and Jessica Northcutt cruised to its seventh-consecutive dual-match victory Saturday by defeating the Spartans' tandem of Stephanie Falcon and Blaine Boaz, 8-4. Already this season, the Bulldogs' Ebada and Northcutt boast a stellar 12-3 record in the doubles play.

In the singles competition, Samford's Carita Moolman and Savannah Wood both extended their extensive winning streaks.

Moolman, the Bulldogs' dominant junior from Aranos, Namibia, defeated UNCG's Amy Ellis on court No. 4, 6-3, 7-5, while Wood breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over the Spartans' Jamie Grinberg in the No. 6 singles contest. With their respective victories, Samford's Moolman increased her winning streak to six-consecutive matches, while Wood notched her seventh straight victory.

In dual-match play this season, the Bulldogs' Moolman improved to 13-3, while Wood moved to 11-5.

The Samford University women's tennis team will next be in action Sunday at noon (CDT) as the Bulldogs conclude their two-match weekend road trip against the Western Carolina Catamounts in another key league test to be held at the Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
