Final ResultsOXFORD, Miss. -- The Samford University women's golf team turned in its best round of the 2015 Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate on Sunday as the Bulldogs fired a day-three total of 294 at the 18-team, three-day event held at the Par-72, 6,313-yard University Golf Club.
With its stellar third-round performance, Samford (304-302-294=900) improved three positions on the final day and finished the tournament tied for 10
th place with Clemson (297-303-300=900). The Bulldogs' third-round tally of 294 proved to be the seventh best score of the day.
Individually, Samford's
Sydney Needham scorched the course with a 2-under par 70 in the final round and earned a 15
th-place finish in the cumulative standings. Needham, the Bulldogs' talented native of Carrollton, Georgia, closed out the weekend tournament with a total score of 4-over par 220 (75-75-70).
Samford's
Bailey Gray also posted a top-25 finish Sunday. Gray, the Bulldogs' feisty senior from Trussville, Alabama, notched a 1-under par 71 in the third round and ended the three-day tournament tied for 25
th place at 222 (75-76-71).
The 2015 Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate proved to be Samford's final competition of the regular season and the Bulldogs' senior
Emily Stallings registered a top-50 performance out of a total of 96 competitors. Stallings, a native of Fayetteville, Georgia, finished the 54-hole tournament 12 strokes over par at 228 (78-74-76).
Rounding out Samford's scores Sunday were
Kate Collom (76-77-82=235),
Haley Harrington (81-78-77=236) and
Haley Wagner (82-86-85=253).
As a team, Texas A&M became the first Southeastern Conference squad to win the Ole Miss Rebel Intercollegiate and its 858 54-hole total was the lowest 54-hole score in tournament history, while Kent State's three-day total of 861 is the second-lowest 54-hole total in tournament history.
Kent State's Josee Hoyon earned Individual Medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 208 and tied for the lowest three-day total in school history. She joined Missouri's Julia Potter, who carded a 208 in 2010. Texas A&M's Marijossee Navarro's third-round 66 is a new 18-hole individual tournament low.
The highly-acclaimed field for the 2015 Rebel Intercollegiate consisted of the following 18 teams: Samford, host-school Ole Miss, Alabama State, Clemson, ETSU, Fresno State, Furman, Harvard, Kennesaw State, Kent State, Maryland, Memphis, Mercer, Murray State, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Tulsa.
The Samford University women's golf team will next be in action April 12-14, as the Bulldogs head to Savannah, Georgia, for the 2015 Southern Conference Championships being held at the pristine Savannah Quarters Golf Club.
