PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Samford junior
Grace Engel sits in third place, and the Bulldogs are in fifth place as a team after the first round of the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge held Monday at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club (Par 71, 6,082 yards).
As a team, Samford shot a first-round score of 295 (+11) to place sixth in the 19-team field. Charleston Southern leads the event with an opening-round score of 288 (+4).
Samford was led individually by Engel, who shot a three-under-par 68 to place third in the 100-player field.
Gabi Nicastro sits in a tie for 22
nd at 74.
Anika Richards shot a 76 on Monday to tie for 38
th, while
Kate Joyner is tied for 47
th with a score of 77.
Morgan Franklin is tied for 94
th with a score of 85.
