BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The Samford women's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over cross-town rival UAB Wednesday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Complex.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 3-3 on the season. UAB drops to 2-5 with the loss.
 
Samford won the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At No. 2, Annika Hepp and Ellie Gerlach defeated Sophie Dodds and Reghan Lynch, 6-4. At the No. 3 position, Savannah Wood and Iva Parapunova earned a 6-1 victory over Catherine Ragon and McKenna Root. The No. 1 doubles match was not completed.
 
In singles, the teams split the six matches. Samford earned wins at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 positions, while UAB earned victories at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4.
 
At No. 2, Carita Moolman earned a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 win over Elaine Simon. Wood earned a 7-5, 6-1 win over Dodds at No. 5, while Hepp defeated Lynch at No. 6, 6-7, 6-0, 7-5.
 
Samford will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 20, when the Bulldogs host Mississippi State. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Complex.
