MOBILE, Ala.—The Samford men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at South Alabama Thursday afternoon at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 3-3 on the season. South Alabama improves to 8-4 with the win.

"It was a tough match for us today," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail. "South Alabama played very well, I give them a lot of credit. They did a great job of using the momentum after winning a tight doubles point and using that to get a good start early in the singles. We did not respond well after losing the doubles point – that is something that needs to change. We started poorly on all courts in the singles and that cost us. We started to make a push on a lot of courts half way through the singles point, but it was a little too late. They are a good team and we knew that coming in to today's match. Now it is time to bounce back and get ready for next weekend's matches."
 
Samford captured one of the three doubles matches, with Eduardo Lourido Sanchez and Jake Faundez defeating Tuki Jacobs and Juan Troglia, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. The Jaguars, however, took the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to earn the point.
 
In singles, the Jaguars won all six matches. At No. 3, Samford's Justin Ghavami took Troglia to a third set, but Troglia pulled out the win, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. Sanchez, playing at No. 5, pushed USA's Dallas Teague to a third set before Teague eventually earned a 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (10-7) win.
 
Samford will return to action on Feb. 28, when the Bulldogs host Eastern Kentucky. The match is set for a 10 a.m. start from the Samford Tennis Complex.
