 BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The Samford men's tennis team earned a 7-0 win over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks Sunday morning at the Samford Tennis Complex.
 
Samford started the match well, sweeping the doubles matches to grab an early 1-0 lead. Samford's Trey Carter and Leonard Gerch defeated Pedro Wagner and Mathias Chaim, 6-3
 
At the No. 2 doubles position, Fares Kilani and Justin Ghavami earned a 6-0 win over Vinicio Hadlich and Jaryd Reese. The final doubles match was not completed.
 
Samford won all six singles matches, with five coming in straight sets. At No. 1 singles, Kilani defeated Wagner, 3-0 (retired). Trey Carter defeated Chaim, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2.
 
At No. 3, Ghavami earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Reese. Gerch defeated Liu Shao Chun, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 at the No. 4 spot. At No. 5, Eduardo Lourido Sanchez defeated Hadlich, 7-5, 6-3. Jake Faundez earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Andres Gomez at the No. 6 position.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 2-2 on the young season. Jacksonville State falls to 3-4 with the loss.
 
Samford will return to action on Feb. 13 when the Bulldogs host Southern Mississippi. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Complex.
