BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Former Georgia women's basketball standout and current Southeastern Conference administrator Tiffany Daniels served as the featured speaker at the latest edition of the SAMFORDSTRONG Leadership Academy seminars, held last week in the McWhorter School of Pharmacy.
Daniels, who currently serves as Associate Commissioner and Senior Woman Administrator at the SEC, spoke in a seminar specifically for Samford's female student-athletes.
Daniels spoke about her journey to being a college athlete and about how she got to her current position. She also spoke to the group about the importance of faith and the role it has played in her life.
"I think we have a tendency as human beings to learn from other people and their stories, because you think you're the only one that's going through this or that," Daniels said. "When you hear other people's testimony, sometimes it gives you faith and hope that, 'my situation is not half bad, actually. Because she did it and she persevered and this is how she did it. I now have hope that things might work out for me.'"
Daniels said she thinks it is always important to help and advise the next generation. She said that is what motivates her to speak to groups like the one she addressed at Samford.
"This, for me, is about my ministry," Daniels said. "Any time I have the opportunity to talk to a group of young women and tell them my testimony, talk to them about what I do and how I got there and provide any insight into some things they can do to get there, I have to do it. Somebody did that for me and I need to make sure I am helping the next generation forward."
The seminar was the first of three that will be held this spring. The next event is scheduled for March 1. The seminar will be a Financial Literacy Workshop, hosted by America's First Federal Credit Union.
The SAMFORDSTRONG Leadership Academy is a program jointly developed between the athletics department and the Frances Marlin Mann Center for Ethics and Leadership. Its mission is to bring in successful athletes to share their personal stories and the importance of faith and character to success in all areas of life to Samford student-athletes.
