BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team earned a home-court win, defeating Belmont, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Complex.
 
Samford improves to 6-4 with the win. Belmont falls to 4-5 with the loss.
 
"We had to fight hard today and find ways to win," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "I am pleased that we were able to fight our way back in to matches and put ourselves in positions to win. We did a lot of positive things on each court today and we need to carry that in to Sunday's match. I am happy with our perseverance today throughout the match – we dug deep at times and had to find ways to be successful, which I am pleased with. Looking forward to competing again on Sunday."
 
Samford earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 2, Jake Faundez and Eduardo Lourido Sanchez defeated Stephen Goldman and Zak Khan, 6-1. At No. 3, Justin Ghavami and Fares Kilani earned a 6-2 win over Bruno Russo and Caio Niel. The No. 1 doubles match was unfinished.
 
In singles, Samford earned wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6. The clinching match came at No. 2 where Trey Carter defeated Robin Demasse, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 1, Kilani earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cedric Dujacquier.
 
At the No.  3 position, Ghavami defeated Adam Rudowski, 6-7, 6-1, 1-0. Sanchez defeated Goldman, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5. At the No. 6 position, Faundez defeated Russo, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
 
 
 
Samford will return to action on Sunday, March 13, when the Bulldogs host Wofford in a Southern Conference contest. The match is set to start at 2 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Complex.
