GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Samford men's tennis team will return to Southern Conference action when the Bulldogs play at UNCG Saturday at 12 p.m. at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
Samford comes into the match with a mark of 7-4 overall and 1-1 in Southern Conference matches. The Bulldogs are coming off a 5-2 win over Wofford last Sunday.
Seniors
Fares Kilani and
Trey Carter have played at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Kilani has a record of 7-4 (6-4 at No. 1, 1-0 at No. 2), and Carter also has a mark of 7-4 (6-4 at No. 2, 1-0 at No. 1).
Justin Ghavami, who was named the SoCon's Player of the Week earlier this week, has a record of 7-3, playing at No. 3 singles.
Jake Faundez has a team-best record of 7-1, all at No. 6.
Leonard Gerch has posted a mark of 4-5 (3-4 at No. 4, 1-1 at No. 5).
Eduardo Lourido Sanchez has a record of 2-5 (2-4 at No. 5, 0-1 at No. 4), while
Austin Heinz is 1-0 at No. 4 singles.
In doubles, Carter and Gerch are 5-4 at No. 1. Faundez and Sanchez have a record of 7-2 (4-1 at No. 2, 3-1 at No. 3). Ghavami and Kilani are 4-4 (3-1 at No. 3, 1-3 at No. 2), and Heinz and Kilani are 1-0 at No. 3.
UNCG enters the match with a record of 7-5 overall and 1-0 in Southern Conference play. The Spartans are coming off a 4-3 win at East Carolina on Thursday.
In the regular-season meeting last season, Samford earned a 5-2 win over UNCG in Birmingham. The teams also met in the Southern Conference Tournament, with Samford taking a 4-3 win over the Spartans.
