MOBILE, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team will travel to Mobile to take on the University of South Alabama Saturday at 11 a.m. at USA's Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
Samford comes into the match with a record of 5-7 so far this season. The Bulldogs are coming off a 5-2 win at Stetson on March 11.
So far this season, senior
Jessica Northcutt has been Samford's entry at the No. 1 singles spot. She currently has a record of 3-8 this season. Fellow senior
Carita Moolman has played at the No. 2 singles spot for Samford, posting a record of 4-6. Another senior,
Iva Parapunova has played at No. 3 singles, and has a record of 4-8.
Sophomore
Ellie Gerlach has played most matches at No. 4 singles, posting a record of 5-6. Sophomore
Savannah Wood has a record of 7-5 (7-4 at No. 5 and 0-1 at No. 4). The No. 6 singles spot has been split between junior
Annika Hepp (3-3) and freshman
Georgina Jupp (2-2).
In doubles, the team has been led by the pair of Northcutt and Moolman at No. 1, posting a record of 7-4. Gerlach and Hepp have a record of 3-3 (3-2 at No. 2 and 1-0 at No. 3). Parapunova and Wood (4-2), Jupp and Wood (1-2) and Hepp and Wood (0-1) have also played at No. 3 doubles.
South Alabama enters the match with a record of 13-4, including an 8-0 mark at home. The Jaguars are coming off a 6-1 win over North Florida on March 13.
Samford and South Alabama met in Mobile last season. The Jaguars earned a 5-2 win over the Bulldogs. In 2014, the teams met in Birmingham, with Samford coming away with a 5-2 victory.
