MOBILE, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback at 39
th-ranked South Alabama Saturday afternoon at USA's Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Samford falls to 5-8 on the season. South Alabama improves to 14-4 with the win.
Samford won the No. 1 doubles match, with
Jessica Northcutt and
Carita Moolman defeating Laura Valkova and Michaela Meszarosova, 6-4. The Jaguars, however, came back with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the doubles point.
USA then swept the six singles matches. The Jaguars earned wins at No. 1, No. 6, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5.
The clinching win for South Alabama came at No. 2 singles where Valkova defeated Moolman, 6-1, 6-1.
The match was the final pre-conference work for the Bulldogs. Samford will open Southern Conference play on March 23, when the Bulldogs host Mercer. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Complex.
