CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Samford men's tennis team earned another road Southern Conference win, defeating The Citadel, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon.
"This was a good way for us to end a long road trip," Samford head coach
Rahim Esmail said. "The Citadel is a tough team - they make you work for things and we had to work hard today. I'm pleased that we took care of business today and am looking forward to the next matches."
Samford swept the three doubles matches. At No. 1,
Trey Carter and
Leonard Gerch defeated Matthew Henson and Artemie Amari, 7-6. At No. 2,
Jake Faundez and
Austin Heinz earned a 7-6 win over Michael Anzalone and Nicholas Bradley.
Fares Kilani and
Justin Ghavami defeated Jackson Pride and Connor Grady, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Kilani defeated Bradley, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1. At the No. 2 spot, Carter earned a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 win over Amari. At No. 3, Ghavami defeated Henson, 6-4, 6-1.
At No. 4 singles, Gerch earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Anzalone. Faundez defeated Pride, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5, while
Henry Moore defeated Roy Hobson, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.
With the win, Samford improves to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Conference. The Citadel falls to 8-20 overall and 0-2 in league matches.
Samford will return to action on April 3, when the Bulldogs play host to Furman. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Complex.
