GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Samford women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Furman in Southern Conference action Sunday afternoon at Furman's Mickel Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 9-10 overall and 4-2 in Southern Conference play. Furman improves to 13-8 overall and 6-0 in SoCon matches.
 
Furman swept the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. Each doubles match was tight as the Paladins won at No. 1 by a score of 7-6, at No. 2 by a score of 6-4 and at No. 3 by a score of 6-4.
 
Furman earned singles wins at the first four positions to take the 5-2 victory. Samford earned wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions.
 
At No. 5, Ellie Gerlach defeated Gabby Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-2. Annika Hepp earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Harper Caswell at the No. 6 spot.
 
Samford will return to action on April 13, when the Bulldogs host Lipscomb in a non-conference match. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Complex.
