CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Samford men's tennis team wrapped up its regular season with a 6-1 Southern Conference road win at Chattanooga Wednesday afternoon at UTC's Champions Club.
 
Samford has now won seven matches in a row, and the Bulldogs improve their season record to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in Southern Conference play. The 6-1 SoCon mark is Samford's best league record since going 9-1 in 2011-12. Chattanooga falls to 7-13 overall and 1-5 in league matches.
 
"We took care of business today," Samford head coach Rahim Esmail said. "Chattanooga is a well-coached, hard-fighting team that make you earn it. I'm happy that we can come out of here with a win. I'm looking forward to getting back to work this week. "
 
Samford earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. At No. 2, Jake Faundez and Eduardo Lourido Sanchez defeated John Peacey and Derrick Brown, 7-6 (7-5). Fares Kilani and Justin Ghavami then earned a 6-4 win over Michael Birnbaum and Nick Wingord at No. 3 to give Samford a 1-0 lead.
 
In singles, Samford won the matches at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to close out the 6-1 win.
 
At No. 1 singles, Kilani defeated Lucas Plesky, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6). Samford's Trey Carter then earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Luke Saunders at No. 2 singles. At the No. 3 spot, Ghavami defeated Wingord, 6-4, 6-0.
 
At the No. 5 position, Faundez defeated Pablo Llebeili, 6-2, 6-4. Sanchez then defeated Brown, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-1) on the No. 6 court.
 
The win concludes the regular season for Samford. The Bulldogs will compete in the Southern Conference Tournament, scheduled for April 21-24, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
