CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In a back-and-forth match that came down to the last two singles courts, the second-seeded Samford men's tennis team was eliminated from the Southern Conference Tournament with a 4-2 loss to third-seeded Furman Saturday morning at Chattanooga's Champions Club.
 
The loss snaps Samford's eight-match win streak, and ends the Bulldogs' season with a mark of 13-5. Furman advances to Sunday's title match against ETSU. The Paladins now have a record of 13-10.
 
Furman took the early lead by earning the doubles point. The Paladins took wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead.

Samford, however took the first two singles matches to grab a 2-1 advantage. At No. 6 singles, Jake Faundez defeated Alex Steryous, 6-0, 6-2. Then, at the No. 4 spot, senior Leonard Gerch downed Ben Horst, 6-4, 6-4 to give Samford the lead.
 
Furman then came back to earn wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles to clinch the win. At No. 1, Furman's Adam Steryous defeated Fares Kilani, 6-3, 6-4. The Paladins' Cameron Green then defeated Trey Carter, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) on the No. 2 court for a 3-2 lead.
 
The clinching point for the Paladins came on singles court No. 3. Matt Browne earned a 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-4 win over Justin Ghavami for the 4-2 Paladin win. The match on the No. 5 court was still in progress when the match was clinched and will remain unfinished.
 
The match concludes a strong season for the Bulldogs. Samford finished second in the SoCon with a regular-season record of 6-1 in league play, finishing just one game behind first-place ETSU.
