JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Samford women's tennis team suffered its first Southern Conference loss in two years in a 6-1 setback at ETSU Sunday afternoon at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 8-9 overall and 3-1 in Southern Conference play. The loss was the first regular-season conference defeat for the Bulldogs since March 29, 2014, when Samford fell at Furman, 4-3. The loss ends a 14-match SoCon win streak for Samford. ETSU improves to 16-1 overall and 5-0 in league play.
 
The Bucs swept the three doubles matches, earning a 6-1 win at No. 1, a 7-6 (8-6) victory at No. 2, and a 6-3 triumph at the No. 3 position.
 
ETSU won singles matches at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, all in straight sets. At No. 2, Samford's Carita Moolman defeated Regina Nychytailova, 3-6, 6-4 (10-3), 10-3. 
 
Samford will return to action on April 9, when the Bulldogs play at Wofford. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start from Spartanburg, S.C.
