BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's tennis team will host the Mercer Bears for Senior Day Friday at 11 a.m. at the Samford Tennis Complex.
Samford's four seniors,
Trey Carter,
Leonard Gerch,
Fares Kilani and
Henry Moore, will be honored in ceremonies prior to the match. These seniors will be playing their final match at the Samford Tennis Complex on Friday.
Samford enters the match with a record of 10-4 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference action. The Bulldogs have won their last five matches in a row, and the team is coming off a 5-2 win over Furman on April 3.
So far this season, seniors Kilani and Carter have been Samford's entries at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions. Kilani has a singles record of 9-5 (8-5 at No. 1, 1-0 at No. 2). Carter boasts a record of 10-4 (9-4 at No. 2, 1-0 at No. 1). At No. 3 singles,
Justin Ghavami has an impressive record of 9-4.
Gerch has a record of 7-5 (6-4 at No. 4, 1-1 at No. 5) so far this season.
Jake Faundez boasts a record at 9-2 (1-0 at No. 5, 8-2 at No. 6), while
Eduardo Lourido Sanchez has a record of 3-6 (3-5 at No. 5, 0-1 at No. 4).
Austin Heinz has a record of 1-0 at No. 4 singles, while Moore is 1-0 at the No. 6 spot.
Mercer comes into the match with a mark of 10-12 overall and 4-0 in SoCon play. The Bears are coming off a 4-3 win at UNCG on April 6.
Last season, Mercer's first in the Southern Conference, the teams met in Macon, Ga., with Mercer coming away with a 5-2 win.
