SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford women's tennis team earns a Southern Conference road win, defeating Wofford, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 9-9 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play. Wofford falls to 9-7 overall and 1-4 in league play.
 
Samford took the doubles point, two matches to one to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Jessica Northcutt and Carita Moolman defeated Cassidy Hicks and Kalli Karas, 6-2. After dropping the match at No. 2 doubles, the Bulldogs clinched the point at No. 3 when Iva Parapunova and Savannah Wood earned a 6-3 win over Taylor Carlson and Catherine Martin.
 
After dropping matches at No. 3 and No. 2 singles, Samford took back the lead with victories at the No. 6 and No. 5 spots. At No. 6, Annika Hepp defeated Carlson, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 5, Ellie Gerlach earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Samantha Russell.
 
Samford clinched the match at No. 1 singles. Northcutt earned the clinching point, defeating Martin, 7-6, 6-3. The match was wrapped up when Wood earned a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Lauren Reid at No. 4 singles to make the final score 5-2.
 
Samford will play at Furman Sunday afternoon. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. from the Furman University campus.
