ATLANTA, Ga. – The Samford women's tennis team will dropped a 7-0 decision at Georgia State Wednesday afternoon at Piedmont Park.
"Today was disappointing in some ways," Samford head coach
David Vest said. "I thought we competed well on some courts, but on others we just didn't keep ourselves out there long enough and just weren't disciplined enough in points to compete as well as we needed against a good team."
Samford won one doubles match. On the No. 2 doubles court,
Savannah Wood and
Arianna Beltrame defeated Anastasia Grosheva and Daniela Ramirez, 6-3. The Bulldogs, however, dropped the decisions at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to lose the doubles point.
Georgia State swept Samford in the six singles matched. The matches at No. 2 and No. 6 went to three sets before the Panthers earned the wins. GSU swept the matches at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 in straight sets.
"We are a talented team, and our energy is always there, but eventually we aren't going to be able to hide behind the excuse of being a young team," Vest said. "We need to grow up fast in the next few weeks if we want to be ready for conference play in a month's time."
Samford will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 25, when the Bulldogs host Arkansas State. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the Samford Tennis Complex.
