BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team will host cross-town rival UAB Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Complex.
Samford enters the match with a record of 3-1 on the young season. The Bulldogs are coming off a 5-2 win over Louisiana Tech Sunday afternoon.
In the win over Louisiana Tech, Samford won two of the three doubles matches, and the Bulldogs won the singles matches at No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 to earn the victory.
For the season, both
Savannah Wood and
Ellie Gerlach have spent time at the No. 1 singles position. Wood is 1-1, all at No. 1, while Gerlach is 2-2 (1-1 at No. 1 and 1-1 at No. 2).
Elsa Pool has a record of 3-1 (2-0 at No. 2 and 1-1 at No. 3).
Arianna Beltrame enters the match with a season mark of 2-2 (1-2 at No. 4 and 1-0 at No. 5).
Nadine de Villiers has a record of 3-1 (2-0 at No. 3 and 1-1 at No. 5).
Annika Hepp has an overall mark of 3-1 (1-0 at No. 4, 1-0 at No. 5 and 1-1 at No. 6), while
Georgina Jupp has a record of 2-0 on the No. 6 court.
UAB enters the match with a record of 1-4. The Blazers are coming off a 5-2 loss to Louisiana Tech Saturday afternoon. Samford and UAB met last season, on Feb. 17, with Samford earning a 4-3 victory over the Blazers.
