BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Lipscomb Saturday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
The teams split the six singles matches, with Lipscomb winning on the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 courts, and Samford taking victories at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6.
 
At No. 4 singles, Arianna Beltrame defeated Thabile Tshatedi, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6. Annika Hepp earned the win at No. 5 singles, defeating Jaclyn Findlay, 6-2, 6-1. At No. 6, Grace Jennings won by default over Madeleine Brooks.
 
In doubles, Lipscomb won at No. 1, but Samford came back to win at No. 2 and No. 3 to take the doubles point. At No. 2, Hepp and Elsa Pool defeated Hannah Gamage and Tshatedi, 7-6. At No. 3 doubles, Beltrame and Nadine de Villiers won by default over Brooks and Findlay.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 8-4 on the season. Lipscomb falls to 3-9 with the loss.
 
Samford will return to action on March 15, when the Bulldogs play at College of Charleston. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start from Charleston, S.C.
