Â
Burns has accumulated a team-high 15 appearances this season and owns a miniscule 1.61 earned run average.
Â
VMI jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning Saturday, but the Bulldogs bounced back with runs in both the fourth and fifth frames to garner their decisive 2-1 advantage.
Â
In the top of the fourth, Samford's
T.J. Dixon led off the inning with a single to center field. He then stole second base and later scored when his younger brother,
Troy Dixon, smoked a single through the right side of the infield.
T.J. Dixon finished the contest 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, while
Troy Dixon notched a 1-for-4 performance.

Â
Samford scored its game-winning run in the fifth inning. Sophomore right-fielder
Jordan Fucci was hit by pitch to lead off the frame. He then advanced to second base on a perfectly-placed sacrifice bunt by
Grant Colton.
Â
After a deep fly ball allowed Fucci to scoot over to third base, the Bulldogs'
T.J. Dixon drove in the game-winning run on an infield single to first base.
Â
VMI's
Matthew Eagle (2-1) started the game and was issued the loss. He only allowed three hits in the contest, but both earned runs occurred during his time on the mound.
