BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The fourth-seeded Samford women's tennis team will open play in the Southern Conference Tournament by taking on fifth-seeded Chattanooga Friday at 9:30 a.m. (CT) in Spartanburg, S.C.
The winner of the Samford-Wofford match will take on the Furman-Western Carolina winner in Saturday's semifinals at 9 a.m. (CT) in Greenville, S.C. The championship match will be Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT), also in Greenville.
Samford posted a record of 12-9 overall and 4-3 in SoCon play during the season. The Bulldogs enter the tournament on a four-match win streak. The team wrapped up its regular season with a 5-2 win at Chattanooga last Friday.
Last season, Samford reached the finals of the SoCon Tournament for a third-straight season. Over the last three seasons, Samford has a record of 7-2 in SoCon Tournament matches, and the Bulldogs won the 2015 event.
Ellie Gerlach, who was named first team All-SoCon Wednesday morning, posted a record of 12-8 for Samford during the regular season.
Annika Hepp, a second-team All-SoCon honoree, went 14-7 this season.
Elsa Pool, who was named to the league's All-Freshman team, finished the regular season with a 10-11 overall mark.
Arianna Beltrame posted an 11-10 overall record, while
Savannah Wood went 7-8 this season.
Grace Jennings finished the season with a record of 5-5, while
Nadine de Villiers had a 4-9 record, and
Georgina Jupp went 2-0 this season.
Chattanooga went 14-7 overall and 4-3 in SoCon matches this season. The Mocs' final match of the season was the team's 5-2 setback to Samford last week.
