CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Samford women's tennis team picked up an impressive 7-0 road Southern Conference win at Western Carolina Sunday afternoon.
 
Samford won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, Ellie Gerlach and Grace Jennings defeated Savannah Taranto and Alexa Webb, 7-5. On the No. 3 doubles court, Savannah Wood and Arianna Beltrame defeated Elizabeth Ansari and Madison Riley, 7-6 (7-4).
 
In singles, Samford won all six matches to take the 7-0 win. At No. 1 singles, Gerlach earned a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win over Jordan Strickland. On the No. 2 singles court, Wood earned a 6-0, 7-5 win over Taranto. Elsa Pool won on the No. 3 court, defeating Webb, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
 
At No. 4 singles, Jennings earned a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 win over Riley. Beltrame earned the win at No. 5 singles, downing Ansari, 6-4, 6-3. At No. 6 singles, Annika Hepp defeated Lauren McCall, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7).
 
With the win, Samford improves to 11-9 overall and 3-3 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina falls to 11-11 overall and 0-6 in league matches.
 
Samford will wrap up the regular season with a match at Chattanooga April 14. The match is set for a 3 p.m. (CT) start from Chattanooga, Tenn.
