BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University soccer team will play its first Southern Conference home match of the 2017 season Friday as the Bulldogs play host to the Chattanooga Mocs at 7 p.m. (CT) in a key early-season league showdown to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Samford (6-5-1, 2-0 SoCon) enters the contest with a full head of steam after earning back-to-back road shutout victories against Western Carolina, 1-0, and ETSU, 2-0, last week in SoCon play.

At ETSU on Sunday, the Bulldogs received key second-half goals from senior Abriella Argueta and junior Ella Baggett to defeat the homestanding Buccaneers in critical league matchup held at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

With the victory, Samford extended its undefeated streak to six consecutive matches and registered its fifth straight shutout.

Since Sept. 3, the Bulldogs have played to a 1-1 home draw with Georgia and then tallied shutout road victories against Western Kentucky, UC Davis, Saint Mary's (CA), Western Carolina and ETSU.

Samford's defense has been impeccable as of late and hasn't allowed a goal in the last 560 minutes of action. The Bulldogs outshot ETSU, 14-3, on Sunday, including an 11-2 tally in shots on goal.

Samford goalkeeper Anna Maddox, who is ranked No. 17 in the nation in shutouts, notched her fifth straight shutout against ETSU. The Bulldogs' talented 6-foot native of Warner Robins, Georgia, earned two key saves against the Buccaneers.

Senior forward Jermaine Seoposenwe is ranked No. 17 in the nation in game-winning goals (3) and No. 25 in total goals (7) this season.

Chattanooga (3-6-2, 1-1 SoCon) heads into Friday's contest riding the positive momentum of a 1-0 shutout victory at Western Carolina on Sunday. The Mocs' key road win snapped a three-match losing streak against Georgia State, 2-0, Alabama, 2-0, and ETSU, 3-0.

Chattanooga has scored eight goals on the season on 101 shots for a 0.73 goals-per-game percentage. The Mocs have 47 shots on goal for a .465 shots-on-goal percentage and averaged 9.2 shots per game. UTC is 1-for-1 on penalty kicks while opponents have scored on just 1-of-2. The Mocs have allowed 19 goals (1.73/game) on 187 shots.

Jordan Mueller leads the team with nine points, scoring three goals and assisting on three game winners. Chloe Arnold tallied the game winner against Western Carolina and is second on the team in scoring with three goals, including a penalty kick. Catherine Meyer, who missed her freshman campaign with a knee injury, has already scored two goals this season, both game winners.

Sophomore goalkeeper Melia Correa has started seven games for Chattanooga. She has 46 saves in 670 minutes in goal for a .754 saves percentage. She has allowed 15 goals for a 2.01 goals against average. Bailey Coppedge has started four matches and has two wins for the Mocs, both by shutout. She has a 1.00 GAA and a .765 saves percentage.

Samford owns an 11-1 all-time record against Chattanooga, including a 10-match winning streak dating back to Sept. 21, 1999. Since the Bulldogs joined the SoCon in 2008, they have outscored the Mocs by a count of 32-5 en route to a 9-0 record.

Last season, Samford posted a 4-0 victory on the road against Chattanooga. The Bulldogs' goals were scored by Courtney Hendrickson, Sara Smeltzer, Argueta and Seoposenwe. Maddox posted a shutout in the triumph.

Following Friday's SoCon home opener against Chattanooga, the Samford University soccer team will next be in action Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs continue their three-match conference homestand against the UNCG Spartans in a pivotal league tilt to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
