BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- In its final home match before the beginning of Southern Conference play this season, the Samford University soccer team will face one of its biggest tests of the 2017 campaign as the Bulldogs welcome the Georgia Bulldogs to the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium for a marquee nonconference showdown to being at 7 p.m. (CT).

Admission is FREE.

Samford (1-5) heads into Friday's matchup with aspirations of bouncing back from a tough 1-0 loss at Kennesaw State on Sunday. In the setback, the Bulldogs were held scoreless for only the second time this season in a key regional nonconference matchup held at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Samford outshot the Owls, 14-3, and out-tallied Kennesaw State in shots on goal, 10-1. The Owls' lone shot on goal found the back of the net in the 39th minute of play as Ida Hepsoe lofted a running, lunging right-footed shot that skidded against the bottom of the crossbar before bouncing down and angling over the line.

With the loss, Samford dropped to 0-3 in road matches this season. The Bulldogs have faced an arduous schedule this year with contests against Memphis, Alabama, No. 4 Florida State and Michigan State.

Samford owns a 1-2 record at home this season and posted a lopsided 5-0 victory against Alabama State last week.

Georgia (3-3) enters Friday's contest with hopes of rebounding from a heart-wrenching 2-0 home loss to No. 8-ranked Clemson on Sunday in front of a school-record crowd of 2,457 fans. The Bulldogs registered nine shots in the match with three attempts being on-goal.

All three of Georgia's losses this season have come against quality opponents. The Bulldogs came up short against both Wake Forest and Virginia Tech by identical scores of 1-0 earlier in the 2017 campaign. Georgia's victories have occurred against Georgia Southern, 3-0, High Point, 1-0, and Charlotte, 1-0.

Georgia has scored five goals this season, all of which have all been tallied by different players. The Bulldogs have also used a pair of goalkeepers this year and they boast goals-against averages under 1.0. Jessie Harvey has started twice in goal this season and holds a team-best 0.48 GAA, while Louise Hogrell owns four starts and a 0.76 GAA.

All-time, Samford is 0-2 against Georgia. Samford lost at home to Georgia, 1-0, in 2015, before coming up short on the road in Athens, Georgia, 3-1, last season.

Following Friday's home showdown against Georgia, the Samford University soccer team will next be in action Sunday at 2 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs begin a five-match road swing against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in a key matchup to be held at the WKU Soccer Complex in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Samford will then continue its road stretch with consecutive matches at UC Davis, Saint Mary's (CA), Western Carolina and ETSU.
