LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The Samford University volleyball team will continue play in its seven-match road stretch this weekend, Friday and Saturday, as the Bulldogs compete in the 2017 Borderland Invitational to be hosted by both New Mexico State and UTEP.
 
Samford (2-4) is scheduled to play four matches in two days and is slated to square off against Delaware State (0-5), UTEP (1-5), Abilene Christian (1-6) and New Mexico State (3-3). The Bulldogs will meet Delaware State at 11 a.m. (CT) on Friday at New Mexico State before traveling to El Paso, Texas, to face UTEP at 8 p.m.
 
On Saturday, Samford will play both of its matches at New Mexico State. The Bulldogs are scheduled to face Abilene Christian at noon before returning to the Pan American Center to meet the homestanding Lobos at 8 p.m.
 
Last week, Samford closed out the 2017 Rambler Challenge with a 1-2 record. The Bulldogs came up short against Milwaukee, 3-0, and Loyola-Chicago, 3-1, but picked up a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Fairfield.
 
Samford's junior outside hitter Krista Boesing was named to the all-tournament team along with Milwaukee's Jenn Dore, Fairfield's Mayda Garcia and Loyola's Morgan Gresham.
 
Delaware State heads into this weekend's Borderland Invitational looking for its first victory of the season. So far this year, the Hornets have been defeated in consecutive matches against Morehead State, 3-0, Winthrop, 3-0, Youngstown State, 3-0, North Carolina A&T, 3-0, and Presbyterian, 3-0.
 
The Bulldogs will play on the road at UTEP on Friday night. The Miners head into this weekend's competition with a 3-2 win over Youngstown State, but also losses to Montana, 3-1, Tulsa, 3-0, Texas Tech, 3-2, New Mexico, 3-0, and North Dakota, 3-0.
 
Samford's final two competitors in the Borderland Invitational will be Abilene Christian and New Mexico State.
 
Abilene Christian enters the weekend with a 1-6 overall record. So far this season, the Wildcats have posted a win against Wyoming, 3-1, but losses to Portland, 3-0, South Dakota, 3-0, Wake Forest, 3-1, Rice, 3-1, Colorado, 3-0, and Texas Tech, 3-0.
 
New Mexico State is hosting a majority of this weekend's tournament at the Pan American Center. The Lobos head into the contest with victories over Rhode Island, 3-0, Valparaiso, 3-1, and UNLV, 3-1, as well as losses against Notre Dame, 3-1, North Dakota, 3-2, and No. 11-ranked UCLA, 3-0.
 
Following play in this weekend's Borderland Invitational, the Samford University volleyball team will next be in action Tuesday at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs return home to Birmingham, Alabama, to square off against the Alabama Crimson Tide in a home match to be held at the Pete Hanna Center.
